Setting the earཧly scratch time in the final﷽ Athens superspecial appears to have handed Marcus Gronholm victory in the Acropolis Rally, ending Sebastien Loeb's run of wins at five.

The Frenchman was aiming to equal his record run of six straight wins in the WRC, but opted to settle for second after suffering a damaging blow-out on Saturday's final stage, and allowed Gronholm to both set the pace and take his third win of the year. Petter Solberg took fastest time on all four traditional stages on Sunday, but it was the Ford man back on top for the fin🅰a♍l blast around the Olympic stadium in the Greek capital.

The 📖Finn set a 2min 21.7secs effort on the spectator special and, with the 2.8km loop safely negotiated, could begin celebrating. Loeb, who had admitted to taking it easy on the final morning, was third fastest among the big names, with Solberg - who had restarted under SupeRally following his coming together with a spectator's car on Saturday - seventh.
