Mo🐬toGP wil🍷l run a specific Michelin tyre test on Friday practice at the Australian round.
As part of Michelin’s 2020 tyre development plans, all MotoGP riders will return to action for a 🌞special practice session which will not contribute towards the race weekend at Phillip Island.
The extra session will last 20 minutes, penned in for 15:55 to 16:15 local time on the Friday of the Australian MotoGP schedule, and all riders will be given a new specification slick rear tyre with the new construction already tested at Barcelona, 🦂Brno and Misano earlier this season during the in-season tests.
The special Phillip Island test will see Michelin trial a new asymmetric design with a harder left-hand side. All riders will be able to pick one rear tyre in either a Soft or Medium compound and will be required to complete a minimum of 11 laps during the 20-minute sessi🃏on.
Riders will also be given an extra front tyre of their preferred specification from Soft, Meꦬdium or Hard options from the French tyre manufacturer’s current tyre range.
Following the 20-minute evaluation session, a decision will be taken on whether the rear t🗹yre will be added to next year’s race weekend allocation.
The spe🍸cial session will only be conducted in dry conditions and Race Direction will be a🍒ble to modify the running schedule accordingly.
Phillip Island has been selected given the track’s unique challenge to tyre manufacturers as it is the toughest anti-clockwise circuit on tyre consumption in the MotoGP calendar, meaning the lꦐeft-hand side of tyres get more use tha🃏n at any other circuit.
