Wickens: ‘It’s going to be a very long road to recovery’

IndyCar driver Robert Wickens has thanked fans and well-wi🏅shers for the ♋support he has received as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver sustained multiple injuries in a multi-car incident on the opening lap of the Pocono race last month 🎶that resulted in his🌠 car being thrown into the catch fencing at high-speed.

IndyCar driver Robert Wickens has thanked fans and well-wishers for the support he has received𝔉 as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver sustained multiple injuries in a multi-car incident on the opening lap of the Pocono race last month that resulted in his car bei😼ng thrown into the catch fencing at high-speed.

A series of medical updates have been post🐼ed since on behalf of his team and family but speaking for the first time publicly since his accident, Wickens delivered a message from his hospital bed to provide an update on his rehabilitation.

In the video posted on social media, the Canadian ac🉐knowledged a “very long road to recovery” and spoke of his determination to retur💝n to a racecar “as quickly as possible”.

“It’s obviously been a long time since I posted anything on social media but I just wanted to say that all of your kind w⛎ords and all of your positivity has meant the absolute world to me and my family,” said Wickens.

“I’m in rehab now trying to get back to 100 percent as quickly as possible. I don’t know know what the future holds for me and it’s going to be a very long road to reco꧃ve🎃ry.

“All I can say is that I promise you guys that I am going to work as hard as possible and train as hard as possible to make sure that I’m back in a ra༺ce car as quick👍ly as possible.”

Wickens was moved to a hospital near his Indianapolis home where he underwent further surgery at the end of August, with the latest medical update - released earlier this month - revealing an extensive list of injuries♎ he ha𝄹d suffered.

It was r🐈ecently announced that Wickens had won the award for IndyCar ‘rookie of the year’ following his impressive performances in the series after switching from DTM.
