Horner ‘cannot believe’ that Mercedes won’t develop 2021 F1 car

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says he “cannot believe” that Mercedes will go through the rest of the season without developing its 2021 Formula 1 car.

Despite suffering a fourth consecutive defeat to Red Bull as Max Verstappen dominated the Styrian Grand Prix, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff reiterated that Mercedes would continue to stick to its development plan for 2022 and would not be introdu🍸cing any more upgrades to its 2021 challenger.

M🎃ercedes has now fallen 40 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ championship, while Verstappen holds an 18-point advan🔯tage over Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings.

After the race, Hamilton stressed Mercedes 168澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果历史:needs an “upgrade of some sort” to be able to beat Red Bull this year, but Wolff backed the team’s decision to stop developing its 2021 car, insisting the title race is “far from over” with 15 race꧒s still to go.

In contrast, Red Bull is continuing to bring more updates for its RB16B and Horner said he believe🎐s Mercedes will do the same.

“What Mercedes do is very much their busine🔯ss, so we’re just focused on ourselves,” Horner said.

“We know Toto loves to throw the light somewhere else, so I cannot believe they’ll go through the rest of this year without putting a single component on🦹 the car.

“ဣAll we can do is focus on our own job. Of course it is a balancing act between this year and next year, but if that means we’ve got to work a bit harder than the other team🌃s, we’re fully up for it.”

Red Bull is enjoying its beౠst spell in F1 since its last title-winning campaign in 2013 and Horner feels that is down to a combination of finally making a strong start to the season and being able to continually improve its car.

“For the first time in quite a whi♔le we’ve come out of the blocks this year with a competitive car and we’ve managed to optimise t🐭hat and tune it,” he explained.

“You’re at the top of the curve with these💛 cars and into marginal gains. When you look 𒀰at the new car for next year, every time it goes through a development cycle it’s significant steps.

“It’s getting the♈ balance right between marginal gains for this year and big steꦦps for next year. But that’s no different to how it’s been in the past.”

But Horner warned there are no guarantees Red Bull’s dominant form will♉ continue into next weekend’s ꧟Austrian Grand Prix and beyond.

“We’ve just got to keep tu✃rning the screw, keep our heads down, keep doing what we’re doing, keep doing the basics well,” he said.

“To have won the last four races across the types of circuits we’ve had is the best run we’ve had s🎀ince 2013.

“A🎃nd we’re back here next weekend and we saw last year that even though you had two races at the same circuit the second race can be quite different to the first with rack conditioᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚns, weather, etc.

“We’ve just got to take each race𒊎 one by one and try to optimise our performance.”
