Giancarlo Fisichella claims an announcement regarding Renault's future could be🍷 made in the coming days and he is confident he will be p⛄art of it, despite rumours to the contrary.
The Italian's contract is up for renewal at the end of t🐭he year and following a difficult season that has seen double world champions Renault struggle to compete with Ferrari, McLaren and BMW, Fisichella's future remains uncertain.
His hopes of staying put for a fourth season with the team have also been hurt by the performances of rookie team-mate Heikki Kovalainen, whose rapid improvement over the last few races has seen the Finn surpass Fisichella in thꦐe standings for the first time during the last round at Istanbul.
Nonetheless, Fisichella, who has won two races with ꦕthe team since he switched from Jordan 🦩in 2005, claims he is confident he will still be in Renault colours in 2008.
"Maybe this weekend, maybe next week," he said regarding the imminent announcement. "It's my target and my dream to be with the team for one more year.♎ I expect confirmation again, obviously.
"Before the start of the seas🤪on we were quite confident to fight for the championship but unfortunately it wasn't like th𝓰at and it was a tough season. So I did my best and I'm looking forward to the confirmation again."
Although Kovalainen was thought to be out of favour following his difficult start to🧸 the season, his run of form is expected to have almost guaranteed ꦏhim a spot in the team next year.
The second seat however is set to come down to a fight between Fisichella, test driver Nelson Piquet Jr, who has previously said that he has signed a deal to race in 2008, and also Fernando Alons🍌o, who could return to the team in light of his misgivings with McLaren.
In respo♌nse to that, Fisichella, who also at times had a strained relationship with the Spaniard, claims he would be surprised to find Alonso back in a Renault in 2008.
"I think there is a lot of talk about that, but Fernando has a contract with McLaren and it is going to be difficult for him to get out of that contract and I don't know if it is the right choice, considering the package♛ of McLaren and the package of Renault. At the moment, for Renault it is a big step, so I don't know."
