Max Verstappen made no secret of his disappointment after retiring from Sunday's Formula 1 race in Bahrain due to a brake failure, believing that second place was within reac🧸h for Red Bull.

Verstappen qualified sixth in Bahrain and made a good start to rise to P5, running within three sec🅠ond⛄s of race leader Valtteri Bottas early on as the Finn backed the train of cars up.

Verstappen tried to get the undercut on the cars ahead by pitting at the end of Lap 11 - one lap after eventual winner Sebast𒅌ian Vettel - and moving onto a set of super-soft ty༒res.

Verstappen's podium hopes were quickly dashed when a brake failure at Turn 4 se🦋t him straight into the barrier, marking his first ret🧔irement of the season.

"It's not a very nice feeling when you hit the pedal and the🐻 pedal just goes very long and you cannot stop the car properly. But unfortunately that's racing as well," Verstappen said, before adding that he tho♔ught a top two finish was possible for Red Bull.

"We lost a lot of points, especially at the moment with the state the car is, we should have taken a lot of points🉐, and a bit ♒unfortunate," the Dutchman said.
