Lauda honoured with Laureus lifetime achievement award
Niki Lauda has been honoured with the lifetime achievement award at this year's Laureus💝 World Sport🤪s Awards last night in Berlin.
The three-time F1 world champion, who currently acts as non-executive chairman of th💃e Mercedes F1 team, received his gong from current F1 champion Lewis Hamilton while his team-mate Nico Rosb🎐erg also attended the event.
Lauda was recognised for being the only F1 world champion with both Mercedes and Ferrari plus his courageous𝕴 comeback by returning to racing six weeks after suffering serve burns in a fireball crash at the Nurburgring in 1976.
Hamilton was also nominated for the World Sportsman of the Year but missed out t𒐪o tennis star Novak Djokovic who reached all fouꦛr Grand Slam finals and claiming victory in three.
